Are you going to order custom t-shirts or apparel for your brand or event? Avoid these common mistakes that can affect the final result, your budget, or even your brand's image.
At BrandLab, we have worked on hundreds of projects and know exactly which details can make (or break) a production. Here are the main mistakes when customizing clothes… and how to avoid them.
1. Sending low-quality designs
One of the most common mistakes is sending a blurry JPG design or one with a background. For DTF printing or embroidery, it is essential to send files in high resolution and with a transparent background (ideally in PNG or vector format).
Tip: If you don't have the file ready, at BrandLab, we vectorize it for free.
2. Not considering the size and placement of the design
It seems obvious, but often it is not specified whether the design goes on the chest, back, sleeve, or if it should be large or subtle. This can completely change the visual impact of the garment.
Solution: Always ask for a mockup beforehand or consult with the team to confirm the ideal size.
3. Choosing the wrong garment for the design
Some fabrics don't work equally well for DTF printing or embroidery. For example, overly thin fabrics can wrinkle with heat, and some very elastic ones are not ideal for embroidery.
Tip: Choose 100% cotton garments for DTF or firmer fabrics for embroidery.
4. Not checking spelling or final colors
Ordering t-shirts with misspelled phrases or in shades that don't match the background is more common than you think. Once printed or embroidered, it cannot be corrected.
Tips: Reread the texts, confirm the colors on screen, and ask for a sample if you have doubts.
5. Trusting providers without real support
Many services only print what you send them, without advice or review. This leads to errors that cannot be corrected later.
At BrandLab, we advise you: we review your files, recommend materials and techniques, and produce with premium standards starting from just 6 units.
